‘Expansive Landscape'

‘Expansive Landscape’ shows a fantastic world where natural and architectural elements live in a suggestive and mysterious atmosphere. Starting with references of previous works composed by multiple images, the intention being of compiling several works into one, thus resulting in a composition that becomes a collage of collages. The subject matter has been gathered from project travels in many places around the world. These include architectural elements and panoramic views from cities like Havana, New York and Sibiu in Romania, to rural and wilder landscapes like Huang Shan in China, Ronda in Spain and Yauyos in the mountains of Peru.

Echoing Chinese scroll paintings, this envisioned panorama combines images of landscapes and urban views that are modified into an open composition with various perspectives and several horizons. Touching on notions of illusion and representation, Brujis questions the perception of traditional landscape as a two-dimensional image.

The drawn strokes describing this world vary in tone and expressiveness, from minuscule details in certain areas to freer lines in others, showing movement and suggesting diverse emotions within the composition. The work grows and expands with digital imagery, creating something new that inhabits photography, digital manipulation and drawing. As he explains: “With this alternative way of representation I try to embody the way we observe and reflect in our memories the panorama, incorporating not only different points of view but also the sensations that inspire the remembrance of a place. With the help of drawing and photography I can better illustrate those feelings to give more levels of meaning to my artistic production.”
